The basis for the general terms and conditions of participation is the statute of the Volkshochschule Magdeburg (hereafter “VHS”) as published in the official journals Amtsblatt No. 37 on November 27th, 2015 and  Amtsblatt No. 31 on December 20th, 2017. These documents are available in the office of the VHS.

Registrations must be made in writing either by fax, by using the online registration form, or during regular office hours in the office of the VHS. Only reservations will be accepted by telephone or via e-mail. Binding registrations must be made using either the registration form from the course catalogue or online via the VHS website. The data collected from the registration form will be stored electronically and only used for administrative purposes and for the settlement of  educational services with the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Persons under the age of 18 need require written parental consent for registration. The participation of persons under the age of 16 is only possible in exceptional cases following consultation with the administration staff of the VHS.

Discounts in the amount of 20% of the participation fee will be granted to pupils, students or holders of the “Magdeburg Pass”. There is no discount available for single events. Holders of an “SWM card” or of an "Sparkassen-Card" of der Stadtsparkasse Magdeburg will be granted a discount of 5 % on course fees for participation in courses with at least 26 hours of instruction. The discount is only granted for one course per semester. Entitlements to discounts must be demonstrated upon registration. Subsequent submissions will not be considered and multiple discounts cannot be granted.

You will receive a registration card as a confirmation of your registration. There is no further notification if the course takes place as indicated on the registration card.

Courses offered by the VHS are subject to payment of an obligatory participation fee. These fees are indicated in the official journal Amtsblatt No. 35 as published on November 26th, 2015. Additional fees, such as for materials or service fees are not included in the participation fee. These extra fees will be charged separately within the framework of the course.

By registering, you agree to pay the participation fee as indicated. When participation fees exceed 150 Euros, payment may be made, upon request, in up to three instalments.

When registering for courses in cooking, an additional fee will charged for any foods required. This fee includes the food purchased and any accessories required. These fees are calculated separately on the basis of actual purchases. Food purchases are based on the number of registrations for the course. If you cannot participate in a course for which you have registered, we recommend informing the VHS at least three days prior to the first day of the course. Otherwise, you will also be charged for any food purchased based on your registration for a given course.

By providing your bank details and your signature on the registration form, you agree to give a SEPA Direct Debit for the related course participation fee. The participation fee will be charged to your account at the beginning of the course. Please make sure that there are sufficient funds on your account to avoid any additional service charges.

All cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellations (postal stamp) made at least 10 days prior to the first day of a course are possible but are subject to an administrative service charge of max. 4.00 EUR. Late cancellations will only be accepted in exceptional cases such as for documented medical reasons or due to moving to another location. In this case, the participation fee will be refunded pro rata. Absenteeism does not constitute a cancellation. Course instructors cannot accept cancellations.

The VHS reserves the right to cancel courses at any time. In such cases, participation fees will be refunded.

Certificates of participation in VHS courses are issued on request. The prerequisite is regular participation (at least 75 % of the lessons) and the payment of the participation fee.

The VHS is not liable for any accidents, thefts, etc. that may occur on its premises. These are the sole responsibility of the participants themselves.
